Let me back in time to the 1920s. Some of you may recognize this decade as "Prohibition era." On January 19, 1919, Amendment XVIII (widely regarded as the modification of the ban) to the Constitution was ratified, which reads as follows: 1. As a direct consequence of the eighteenth amendment, the United States began to notice some very disturbing issues: Issues such as gang violence, police corruption, and a whole new twist on the black market. People started making "bathtub gin", which, due to impurities, dead and wounded many. Men like Al Capone came to power, resulting in smuggling operations that killed thousands of Americans. As these problems increased over the years, many began to see the ineffectiveness of the eighteenth amendment, and realize the damage that was causing the country, and less than 15 years after the amendment was repealed by Amendment 21. The point here is that in this case, the prohibition did not work, in fact, was a terrible failure that cost billions of dollars, caused crime rates to increase exponentially, and destroyed thousands of American lives, the while not significantly reduce the availability or consumption of alcohol. Anyone with the desire to do so can obtain drugs from the street without any problem. We still have much to learn from the prohibition of alcohol. The truth is that drugs are everywhere. Nobody in this country that wants drugs can get – even people in our prisons we keep pushing more and more overcrowded. We as the advantages against the disadvantages in this war against drugs. Another important point I would make is this: The prohibition of alcohol requires specialized legal action, including an amendment to the Constitution. No such amendment allowing the government to ban the use of a free person of marijuana or other drugs for that matter. The ban is totally unconstitutional, and fundamentally incompatible with American freedom. How can you call yourself America the land of the free, when we have more people in prison than any other country? How can you call yourself America the land of the free, when we have the freedom to smoke up to a dry, relatively harmless herb? In relativity with alcohol and snuff, the effects of cannabis in society and individual health are significantly less, however, alcohol and snuff are legal and cannabis is not. This is because America was the prohibition of alcohol to be foolish and impossible during the 1920's, and not to apply this knowledge to today. The Declaration of Independence that all men are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. It also mentions that the government derives its powers from the consent of the governed, and that is the people's right to alter government when it becomes destructive of these ends. Prohibition of marijuana is a violation of two of the three principles I have to say: freedom and the pursuit of happiness. We, as Americans, are taking our freedom violated by the ban, which does not allow us the potential use of medicinal, recreational and artistic of this herb. Our pursuit of happiness is also being directly infringed. For many, the use of cannabis is a ritual of great joy and pleasure, and the prohibition of this substance causes a significant alteration of this pleasure. The relative lack of damage that cannabis causes an individual or company, it is reasonable to suggest that this joy may be violated. In the preamble to the Constitution, which says: "We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the benefits of liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America. "In my book, which would have a more perfect union if we abolish marijuana prohibition continues. As in the 1930's when alcohol was legalized again, restore peace and order in a newly broken society, we must strive to help restore order in modern society today. Mothers, fathers, sisters and brothers feel the effect. Businessmen, lawyers, doctors and teachers feel this effect. Almost every industry in the world has felt the sting of marijuana prohibition, however, nothing has been done does not destabilize this unconstitutional practice of law. Marijuana prohibition is not to promote the general welfare, however, is promoting the general chaos, criminalizing the good people, and destroying the foundations upon which this nation was founded. And, as mentioned earlier, marijuana prohibition is absolutely no help to secure the blessings of liberty. As Americans, we all have the power to do something about the ban. We all have the power to express our opinions, write letters to Congress, visiting senators, write letters to the editor, voting in elections, become activists, and oppose the legal ban on a number of ways.
